Steady inside the storm.
Peace is a practiced posture, not the absence of pressure.
Peace is not the absence of pressure. Peace is knowing who you are, knowing who God is, and refusing to let pressure decide who you become.
Why It Matters
Most people let circumstances determine their internal state. When their plans change, they lose peace. When they are rejected, they question their identity. When they don't know what's next, they panic. Peace becomes dependent on things they cannot control.
My Perspective
I believe peace comes from staying rooted in God as your source, knowing your identity, trusting Him with what you cannot control, governing yourself when emotions rise, and obeying what He has called you to do.
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
When pressure hits, separate what happened from what you're making it mean. Ask what is actually yours to control, what you need to surrender to God, and who you want to be in the situation. Pause. Pray. Choose. Respond.
The Identity Statement
I don't have to fold.
Feeling something doesn't mean you have to obey it.
An impulse is information. It isn't instruction.
What happens around you does not get to decide who you are.
I don't have to carry life as though I'm God.
I don't need a life without storms. I need roots deeper than the storm.
What currently has the most power to steal my peace?
What am I making this situation mean?
What am I trying to control that isn't actually mine?
What do I need to surrender to God, and who do I want to be in this situation?
Discipline
The freedom you want costs restraint.
